| The people responsible for
this domain are mature, thinking Christians who believe that what God says
in the Bible about the present world, its past, and its future is true.
We are trusting Jesus Christ to save us from God's righteous anger which
we have incurred because of our former rebellion against God.
The domain is registered to me, Randall Hardy.
I live in the North West of England and have been a Christian for over
40 years. Having been brought up in a 'church-going family', in my mid-teens
I had to face up to the fact that there was a massive gulf between my own
experience and what I was being taught Christianity should be like. I was
faced with a choice; either God was wrong or I was. I decided to give God
the benefit of the doubt. At first that meant that I began to read the
Bible and try to put into practice what it taught. This is not as easy
as some may think, because the Judaeo-Christian Scriptures are primarily
concerned with what we are like on the inside, not simply with how we behave
'in public'.
That was only the initial phase and since then
I have discovered that living in fellowship with Him is essential to being
a disciple of Jesus Christ. This is experienced primarily by allowing the
Holy Spirit to take the initiative and to train us through the everyday
things of life to have the same attitude as Jesus has - the very reason
why He was willing to be abused and killed by those who did not understand
Him.
Of course this is a world-view which is diametrically
opposed to the one which currently prevails in most western societies.
Both materialism and naturalism, only value that which can be handled,
investigated and empirically ‘proved’. The short-comings of this value
system are illustrated by the number of people who look either casually
or seriously for non-materialistic dimensions to life. Secular atheists
would probably describe such people as ‘weak’, but could it be that the
true weakness lies in their own insistence that there is no God?
The rise of secularism in the west, with its specific
rejection of Christianity, has been very closely associated with the popularisation
of evolution. This why you will find on this domain several sites addressing
issues raised by the conflict over origins. We do not hide our view that
there are considerable problems with the assertion that Darwinian, biological
evolution has been proved beyond the need for continued debate about its
foundational principles.
We do not accept that the Earth is billions of
years old. The geological evidence, properly understood, shows the Earth
has only been here a few thousand years. That being the case, the "Theory
of Evolution", which claims that one type of plant or animal can turn into
another, obviously becomes totally implausible without the unimaginably
long time scales!
On the other hand, we do not subscribe to everything
which is promoted by “scientific creationism”. Some of the claims made
by those working in this area are demonstrably incorrect, Biblically as
well as scientifically.
My desire in life, and therefore through this
domain, is to seek and promote an understanding of life that is consistent
with the facts which we find in the Bible and in God's creation. However,
I believe that there are limits to that which God will allow men to know
or do (Job 38:1-41:34). Also, that there will always be a substantial
amount of information which will be capable of being interpreted in various
and contradictory ways. This is because God freely allows men to
look at things the wrong way up if they insist on doing so (Psalm 18:25-26).
I am also convinced that it is a waste of time
to attempt to "prove the Bible is true" by means of science or historical
investigation. Even if every fact in the Bible could be shown
to be true by such means, it would still not compel anyone to believe that
the statements in the Bible which require faith are correct, or even that
God exists. In fact, there is no need for such proof - the knowledge that
there is a real God who created the heavens and the earth is known intuitively
by everybody, and all atheism is the result of wilful suppression of this
truth. This leaves everyone without any excuse for their unbelief; hence
God can rightfully give such unbelievers over to judgement. (Romans 1:18-32)
It is by faith that we understand
that the present creation was prepared by the word of God (Hebrews 11:3).
Hence, no amount of intellectual argument or proof will bring people to
repentance, since the problem is the refusal of fallen humans to surrender
the control of our lives to God. Because of that independence, people are
unable to see the Truth which stares them in the face: they are locked
into a paradigm which excludes God. The only way to liberate such people
is by the humanly "foolish" method of declaring the truth about God and
Jesus Christ, which the Holy Spirit can take and flip the unbeliever into
a new "paradigm" centred in Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:18-2:16)
There are of course some sites hosted here which
do not address the creation-evolution conflict directly. Christianity is
not a single issue matter. However, life and our understanding of it is
not divided into compartments, so everything is relevant to everything
else.
I am responsible for managing the different sites
hosted here, but some material was originally posted by Richard Johnston,
whom I have known since the early 1970’s.
I hope that all find the content of this domain
useful, though I know it will annoy some. I pray that all will engage with
the questions raised and carefully test the answers given.
